The top seed's been bundled out of the Heineken Open in Auckland as the tennis tournament came to life on quarter finals day.
They've been called the Spanish Armada, given their numbers in Auckland for the Open, but the big American's so far taken out two of them and is now lining up another.
Standing 2.06 metres tall - that's six foot nine inches - John Isner's now beaten the top seeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo in the quarter-finals, 7-6 3-6 6-4, after eliminating Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in his first match.
The giant American traded breaks of service with Robredo in the opening set, Isner's trademark thunderbolt serve so big on one ace that the ball bounced almost to the top of the Redwood Stand.
He went on to win the first set in a tiebreak but Robredo quickly showed why he's ranked 18 places higher than Isner at world number 16, breaking Isner in the 8th game of the second set to take it 6-3 and looking comfortable as Isner's unforced error count rose.
Robredo quickly broke again in the first game of the decider but Isner broke back as the Spaniard started to make mistakes. He double faulted to hand Isner match point then sent a return long, Isner winning the match 7-6 3-6 6-4.
He now faces his third Spaniard of the tournament on Friday after Albert Montanes, who ended New Zealander Rubin Statham's run, beat the Swiss Michael Lammer 6-3 6-3.
