Day shot a final round two under par 69 to finish at 22 under for the tournament six shots clear of his nearest rival American Daniel Berger.

Monday's result is Day's fourth win in his last six starts which include his win at the final major of the year, the PGA Championship.

The 27-year-old replaces Northern Ireland's Rory McIlory as world No.1.

New Zealand golfer Danny Lee fired an even par round of 71 to finish the tournament at three under, a massive 19 shots behind Day.

Lee's tie for 47th means he qualifies for the season-ending tournament on the PGA Tour, the Tour Championship.

The 30-man tournament is also the decider for the season-long FedEx Cup, where the winner earns over $10 million.
