A knee injury has ended New Zealand No.1 Marina Erakovic's tennis season, and her participation in January's ASB Classic in Auckland is also in doubt.

Erakovic withdrew from the entire Asian swing, then confirmed via Twitter that she's going to have to pull out of the rest of the WTA Tour.

It's been reported that the 27-year-old has a stress fracture in her patella tendon and it's likely she will require surgery.
Erakovic has struggled this year, and her world ranking has dropped from 76th at the start of 2015 to 107th.
She was forced to retire from her recent first round US Open match against Romanian star Simona Halep while trailing the second seed 0-3 in their second set on centre court.

Erakovic's best results this year came right at the beginning when she made the last 16 in Auckland and at the Sydney International.
