Mali snatch unlikely draw with Angola

The Mali football team has made an unexpected comeback in the opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations to hold on for a 4-4 draw against tournament hosts Angola.

Angola led 2-0 at half-time after a double from striker Flavio Armado, and extended their lead to 4-0 after converting two second half penalties.

But with 16 minutes to go the unlikely comeback began, with Mali's Seydou Keita scoring from close range and Frederic Kanoute heading in a second goal soon after.

Mali then scored another two goals in injury time to level the scores at four apiece.

The tournament had been thrown into doubt after gunmen attacked the Togo team bus in the enclave of Cabinda on Friday, killing the driver and two members of the Togolese delegation.

The match opened with a minute's silence in memory of those killed.
