The third seed Yanina Wickmeyer of Belgium has won the singles title at the ASB Classic women's tennis tournament in Auckland.

In the final Wickmeyer beat top seed Flavia Pennetta of Italy in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.

It is the third WTA singles title of 20-year-old Wickmeyer's career.

She was initially in doubt for the event after breaching drug testing protocols, but had the ban lifted just before Christmas.

Earlier the top seeds Cara Black of Zimbabwe and Liezel Huber of the United States won the doubles final with a straight sets victory over the unseeded pair of Natalie Grandin of South Africa and Laura Granville of the United States.
