The Black Caps will get just three days of match play in Australia with the controversial pink ball ahead of the inaugural day-night Test against Australia in Adelaide in November.
New Zealand Cricket has confirmed the Black Caps will play a two-day match against a Western Australian XI in between the second and third Tests.
New Zealand will also play a one day match with the pink ball in their tour opener against Prime Minister's XI in Canberra on October 23rd.

Both the New Zealand and Australian cricketers have expressed concern about the experimental nature of the pink ball but Cricket Australia is keen to push ahead with day-night Tests, believing it will be a good revenue earner.
The first in the three-Test series starts in Brisbane on November 5th.
New Zealand Cricket general manager Lindsay Crocker said Cricket Australia offered a four-day warm-up match ahead of the first Test to be played in Sydney under lights with a pink ball, but the Black Caps' preference was for a red ball game, given the first two Tests would be played in the traditional manner.
Crocker said the players were also training regularly with the pink ball to try and get used to its characteristics.
"When we were in England in June we managed to get some pink balls from Kookaburra and the guys were getting used to having a hit around with them at training and they've had no issue with them.
"The key is to also be able to practice under lights... so what we are looking to do before they tour is set up a two day non-competitive match in Hamilton under lights before the guys head away on tour just to give them an additional pink ball opportunity," said Crocker.
