Gordon McCauley and Melissa Holt have staked their claims for inclusion in the Commonwealth Games cycling team, upsetting more fancied rivals to win the men's and women's time trial titles at the national road champs in Christchurch.
McCauley, who won a bronze medal in the event at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games, finished nearly a minute clear of his nearest rival, former national champion Jeremy Vennell, of Hawkes Bay, with Olympic pursuit medallist
Marc Ryan of Timaru third.
Holt, who's been mixing cycling with triathlon in recent years, finished 40 seconds ahead of world individual pursuit champion Alison Shanks, with world time trial bronze medallist, Linda Villumsen third.
