The Black Caps find themselves in the familiar position of having to win their next match in order to keep a series alive, when they play South Africa in the second match of their three-game one day series.
Lose on Sunday in Pochefstroom and the Proteas will take an unassailable 2-0 lead.
All-rounder Jimmy Neesham says while they didn't play to their best in game one, he doesn't believe they're too far off turning things around.
"We're under no illusion that we didn't play our best game but on the other hand we weren't too far off beating a very good South African side, so hopefully there's a just a few small adjustments leading into game two," he said.
"We've put ourselves in this position a few times over the past year or so, going behind in a series but we are will versed in what it take to make those little one percent improvements and come back stronger in the next game."

In the past 18 months the Black Caps have lost the first match in a series to Bangladesh, South Africa, Pakistan, the West Indies and England - although they have only then gone on to win the series against Pakistan and Zimababwe.
There was the 3-0 series loss away to Bangladesh in October 2013 and a drawn series 2-2 away to the West Indies in December of that year after losing the opening match.
A lost series to South Africa here in October last year, a 3-2 series loss to England in June followed by a 2-1 series win in Zimbabwe - all involving first-up losses.
