The family of New Zealand equestrian Andrew Nicholson say he's now able to walk unaided following surgery on his neck last week.

Nicholson, one of the most successful riders in eventing history, is recovering in an Oxford hospital after falling during an event in England last week.
His family said he wanted to thank the medical staff looking after him and the public for all the messages of support he has received since his accident.
