The Gisborne surfer Ricardo Christie has recorded his highest finish in a World Surf League event despite being knocked out in the third round.
Competing at Margaret River in Western Australia, Christie has finished 13th after losing Friday's heat to the Brazilian Adrian de Souza.
On Thursday, Christie enjoyed just his second win on tour beating the current joint world number one, Filipe Toledo of Brazil.
