The Serb won 7-5 7-5 and the reigning champion now faces John Isner for a place in the final, after the American upset fourth seeded Japanese Kei Nishikori 6-4 6-3.
Third seed Andy Murray plays eighth seed Tomas Berdych in the other semi.

Women's world tennis number one Serena Williams needed three sets to book her place in the final against Spain's Carla Suárez Navarro, Williams beating third seeded Romanian Simona Halep 6-2 4-6 7-5.
Suárez Navarro easily beat Germany's Andrea Petkovic 6-3 6-3.
