New England trailed by 10 at the beginning of the fourth quarter but a pair of touchdown passes from the star quarter-back, Tom Brady, had his side in front heading into the final two minutes.

The Seahawks had a chance to snatch victory when a miraculous catch by Jermaine Kearse put them in a scoring position, however the Patriots cornerback, Malcolm Butler, intercepted a pass for what would have been the winning touchdown.

Brady was named Most Valuable Player after he fired a total of four touchdowns as he set a new record for Super Bowl touchdown passes with 13, eclipsing Joe Montana's previous mark of 11.

The victory put New England alongside five other teams with at least four Super Bowl wins.
