21-year-old Spieth, already a winner on the PGA tour, and runner up at this year's Masters, posted a flawless 8-under par 63 on the final day at the Australian Golf Club.

Spieth says it was the best round he ever played "with these conditions definitely ... and the best win I've ever had, you know being able to spread out from the field, that was a pretty awesome experience."

The next three places went to home players Rod Pampling, Brett Rumford and Greg Chalmers whose placings qualified them for next year's British Open.

Only eight players finished under par for the tournament, among them the leading New Zealander, Aucklander Ryan Fox who tied for 7th.

Adam Scott finished 5th and the world number one Rory McIlroy tied for 15th, 15 shots behind the winner.
