Mark Hughes has been sacked as manager of the Premier League football club Manchester City and replaced by Italian Roberto Mancini.
The world's richest club appointed Hughes in 2008 but has been replaced after City beat Sunderland 4-3 at Eastlands to record only their second win in their last 11 league matches.
They are sixth in the standings and firmly in the hunt for a top four finish this term.
Hughes spent more than 100 million pounds on players during the close season in a spending spree fuelled by the petro-dollars of billionaire owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan in a bid to secure a Champions League place.
