Auckland City will play off for fifth place at the FIFA Club World Cup after going down 3-0 to the Mexican side Atlante in Abu Dhabi .
A fluffed clearance in an otherwise organised and miserly first half defence for Auckland, saw Atlante to a 1-0 half-time lead.
City showed more attacking intent after the break but with 20 minuies left the Mexcians made sure of a semi-final; against the Europen champions Barcelona with well taken goal, adding a third as the tiring Aucklanders searched for a goal.
The Oceania Champions will face the African champions TP Mazembe from the Democratic Republic of Congo on Thursday morning before Atlante take on Barcelona in the second semi final.
The Asian champions Pohang Steelers from Korea beat Mazembe 2-1 yesterday and play Club Estudiantes from Argentina in the first semi final on Wednesday.
