United's win also ended Tottenham's hopes of making their third successive League Cup final.
Aston Villa join United in the final four, coming from a goal down to beat Portsmouth 4-2 in their quarter-final.
The final two spots will be determined tomorrow when Manchester City host Arsenal, and Premier League leaders Chelsea travel to Blackburn Rovers.
