Edwards saw off the challenge of England's defending champion Natalie Melmore in the gold medal match, winning 21-15 in the 24th end after holding a 17-4 lead.

The singles medal adds to the gold Edwards won in the pairs in Manchester in 2002.

Earlier, the women's foursome of Val Smith, Amy McIlroy, Selina Goddard and Mandy Boyd defeated Scotland 21-15 to win the bronze medal.

The 15 end final was locked up at 9-9 after eight ends, before New Zealand took control to take a 16-9 lead after the 11th. However Scotland fought back and trailed 16-15 going into the final end.
