The German cyclist Marcel Kittel has won his third stage on this year's Tour de France after coming home first in a bunch sprint on the fourth stage to Lille.

Kittel, who won the first and third stages, now has seven Tour stages to his name.

Italian Vincenzo Nibali retains the overall leader's yellow jersey after spending a quiet day in the peloton, however defending champion Chris Froome suffered a fall, but is continuing.

New Zealand's Greg Henderson also suffered a crash with about 20 kilometres to go and abandoned the race with a deep cut to his knee.
