The Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett will head to Wales to continue his rugby career with the Cardiff Blues.

Hammett announced last month that he was leaving Wellington after four years with the Hurricanes.

Cardiff have now confirmed that they have signed Hammett for three years and he'll take up the post after the Super Rugby season.

The 41-year-old replaces Phil Davies at Cardiff.

The Cardiff chief executive Richard Holland says they conducted an extensive worldwide search, with the help of Wales coach Warren Gatland and Gareth Edwards, and are absolutely delighted that Hammett will be taking the role of Director of Rugby.
