Australia's National Basketball League has parked its idea for a summer league tournament, and will usher in a marquee player rule.

The NBL has decided to put its plans to stage the summer league in Las Vegas later this year on hold.

Each team will be able to nominate one marquee player on its active roster, who they can pay any amount, which may take them above the current $A1 million salary cap.
