The New Zealand women's hockey team has qualified for the next stage of the Champions Challenge tournament in Cape Town following a come-from-behind 4-2 victory over Italy.

The lower ranked Italians led twice through out the match and gave the Black Sticks a stern test.

Katie Glynn and Anita Punt scored field goals in the first half for New Zealand and Samantha Harrison added a third before Clarissa Eshuis converted a late penalty corner to seal the match.

New Zealand beat Spain in their opening match and will finish top of their group and will play South Africa in their next match.

The winner of the tournament qualifies for next year's Champions Trophy tournament.
