The end of Brad Thorn's rugby career?

The former All Black lock Brad Thorn's Super rugby season is over and the question now is whether it's end of his career.

Thorn tore a bicep in the Highlanders win over the South African side the Bulls in Dunedin on Friday and requires surgery.

The Highlanders say the nature of the injury and the recovery period mean it's unlikely Thorn will return to the field this season.

The 39 year old Thorn was on a one year deal with the Highlanders for the 2014 season but has previously said he'd like to play a season of Super rugby as a 40 year old.

A team spokeswoman says Thorn has given no indication of whether that was his last game with the focus being on recovering.
