The Taranaki dressage rider Vanessa Way has had to pull the pin on her dreams of representing New Zealand at this year's World Equestrian Championships in France.
Way is retiring her horse after he failed to recover fully from a throat operation.
Way has had 15-year-old Arvan since he was two, and together they have won every major New Zealand title from novice through to grand prix.
