A record number of rowers will take part in the Maadi Cup-National Secondary School Rowing Championships on lake Ruataniwha this week.
The regatta starts today with 2108 students from 125 schools taking part in 50 event classes.... it's the biggest Maadi Cup regatta in the events 67 year history.
The secondary school rowers will race in singles, doubles, pairs, fours, quads and eights in under-15, under-16, under-17 and under-18 age groups.
St Margaret's College last year won the Levin Jubilee Cup for girls' under-18 eights and Hamilton Boys High School won the 2013 Maadi Cup - the regatta is named after the trophy contested by the under-18 boys' eights.
