Mathewson gets one-week ban

The Western Force halfback Alby Mathewson has escaped serious punishment for stamping during his side's 18-15 Super Rugby win over the Chiefs in Perth, receiving a one-week suspension that covers his team's seventh-round bye.

SANZAR duty judicial officer Adam Casselden handed down the ban for the former Hurricanes and Blues player's third-minute stamp on Chiefs and All Blacks flanker Sam Cane.

Casselden noted that the recommended entry point ban for the offence is two weeks, which would have ruled him out of the April the 5th meeting with the Queensland Reds at Suncorp Stadium.

However based on the acceptance of the indicated sanction, the player's excellent disciplinary and playing record and in recognition of his early plea, a discount from the lower end entry point to a one week suspension was imposed.

Mathewson is officially free to play again from March the 30th.
