The Winter Olympics hosts Russia have crashed out of the men's ice hockey competition in Sochi.

Russia were regarded as one of the favourites for the gold medal, but they were no match for Finland who conceded an early goal but came back to win 3-1.

Finland will play Sweden in the semi-finals on Saturday morning........

But the favourite came through in the men's giant slalom.

The US star Ted Ligety sealed the second Olympic gold of his career with a combined time for the two runs which was just under half a second faster than the French outsider Steve Missilier who was only 10th after the first run.

29 year old Ligety, a 4-time world champion, won his first Olympic gold in Turin in 2006.....

Finland won the men's cross-country team sprint title after a protest by Germany, whose last skier fell close to the finish, was turned down.........

Norway and Germany share the lead on the gold medal table with 8, while Russia and the Netherlands lead the total medals tally with 22........
