Chiefs and Hurricanes lose in Australia

Both the Chiefs and the Hurricanes have suffered pre-seaon Super Rugby losses to Australian sides.

The Queensland Reds beat the defending champions the Chiefs, 31-20, in Toowoomba on Saturday night, while the Hurricanes lost 24-22 to the Rebels in Melbourne.

Hurricanes loose forward Brad Shield suffered a potentially serious knee injury and was assisted from the field midway through the first half.

Former All Black Tamati Ellison, who's joined the Rebels this year but only arrived in Victoria a few days ago after playing in Japan, took the field against his old side.
