The rugby league convert Benji Marshall concedes he may have underestimated just how much of an adjustment there'd be in switching to rugby union.

The former Kiwis captain will make his much anticipated debut for the Blues in their Super Rugby pre-season game against the Hurricanes in Masterton on Saturday.

The Blues coach Sir John Kirwan has confirmed Marshall will start at start at first five eight and is also likely to spend some time at fullback.

Marshall says he when he first arrived at the Blues he thought there'd be a lot of similarities between the two codes but says that's not the case.

He says everyday he's learning something new and goes home with plenty to think about after training.
