The former formula one driver Alessandro Zanardi, who lost both legs following a crash in Germany in 2001, is returning to motorsport as a BMW factory driver.
The 47-year-old Italian will take part in this year's Sprint Series for the same team he raced for in the European Touring Car championship in 2004 and the world championship between 2005 and 2009.
Zanardi said he was motivated to return to motorsport after first testing the BMW he'll be driving in 2012.
