The New Zealand tennis number one Marina Erakovic's campaign at the Australian Open has ended on the fourth day with twin defeats in both the singles and the doubles.
First Erakovic lost in her second round singles match in Melbourne, beaten in straight sets by Kazahkstan qualifier Zarina Diyas 6-4, 6-0 - who at world number 152 was ranked 100 places below the Aucklander.
Then Erakovic teamed up with China's Zheng Jie in the doubles, where they were seeded 10th, but lost 6-3 6-3 to French pair Alize Cornet and Caroline Garcia.
Erakovic says it was probably the longest, toughest day at a grand slam in her career. She started at 7.30am and didn't end til after 9pm due to the delays, which included a lightning storm during the doubles, when she revealed she was worried she'd be struck.
