The Christchurch pro cyclist Hayden Roulston has won his 4th national road title.

Roulston won today's 184km race in Christchurch in a sprint finish from fellow world tour rider Jack Bauer with triathlete Tom Davison third.

The 3 were a part of a breakaway group and rode the last few laps on their own.

Roulston celebrated his 33rd birthday by becoming just the third man to win the national title 4 times.

Nick Carter and Jack Swart are the other 2, while Gordon McCauley has five victories.
