Brazil defends preparations

Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff has insisted her country will pull off a successful football World Cup this year.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter has criticised Brazil for being slow to start preparations for its first World Cup since 1950.

The build-up has been plagued by construction delays and spiralling costs, as well as civil unrest over the billions being spent on the tournament and the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Rousseff says Brazil will get it right on the night and start 2014 confident in its ability to be host.
