Mushtaq vital as Black Caps look to cope with spin wizards

While only three of the New Zealand cricketers who take on Sri Lanka in the first Test in Galle today have played there before, the batsmen's inexperience with spin is something that has been addressed.

Skipper Daniel Vettori says having the former Pakistan spin bowler Saqlain Mushtaq prepare the Black Caps for the likes of Muralitharan and Mendez has been invaluable.

It's been raining in Galle and showers are forecast for today.
