Australian boxer Anthony Mundine has beaten ageing and stricken American superstar Shane Mosley in their bout for the vacant WBA International super welterweight title in Sydney on Wednesday night.
The 42-year-old American had to retire after the sixth round with a severe back spasm at Olympic Park.
Mosley said he believed Mundine was in front at the time of the stoppage, all three judges agreeing with the verdict.
Mundine expressed sympathy to Mosley, but says he's now looking to capitalise on securing the biggest scalp of his career after producing one of his best performances.
The 38-year-old still hankers for a shot at peerless WBA champion Floyd Mayweather.
On the Mundine undercard, fallen New South Wales rugby league star Blake Ferguson looked a fish out of water in boxing gloves rather than football boots as he "failed miserably" in his heavyweight boxing debut.
But Ferguson declared he didn't care and was happy, after being convincingly beaten by excavator Luke Kelly.
And the 23-year-old says he'll now turn his attention to resurrecting his NRL career for next season, striving for a second chance in a sport where he excels.
