Kiwi billionaire hoping for third VRC derby win

There are precious few New Zealand connections going into VRC Derby day at Flemington as the Melbourne carnival gathers momentum for Cup day on Tuesday.

There are no New Zealand-trained three year olds in the field for the 1.5 million dollar Derby, but there is a New Zealand-owned colt in the 18-horse lineup.

The Matamata-bred but Sydney trained Criterion is part-owned by the New Zealand philanthropist Owen Glenn who is hoping to become a third-time Derby-winning owner, after the successes of Second Coming in 1997 and Monaco Consul in 2009.
