Western Australian selection start well against England

A Western Australian selection has made a good start in the England cricketers tour opener in Perth, giving the tourists plenty of time to run off the cobwebs in the field.

With most of their frontline players busy on Sheffield Shield duty, the local team was expected to roll over for the tourists but their top order powered them to 369 for four at stumps on the first day of the three day match.

Apart from James Anderson, who took 1 for 31, none of the English bowlers could pose much trouble to the batsmen.

England rested skipper Alastair Cook, Kevin Pietersen, Graeme Swann and Stuart Broad for the match, putting Matt Prior in charge of the team.
