Ko officially a pro

Lydia Ko has been granted full membership of women's golf's premier tour from the start of the 2014 season after the LPGA Tour waived the age limit clause for the 16-year-old New Zealand phenomenon.

A few days after formally announcing her decision to turn professional, the LPGA tour has made an exemption for Ko in granting her membership of the biggest tour in the women's game which normally has an 18-year-old age requirement for membership.

Ko says she's very excited to become an LPGA member as it's always been her dream goal to play on the Tour and she can't wait to start the season early next year, and play against the world's best players.

She says she would love to be able to inspire other girls to take up the game.

The Auckland teenager became the youngest player to win a professional tournament when she clinched the New South Wales Open in Sydney aged 14.

LPGA commissioner Mike Whan says it's not often the Tour welcomes a rookie who is already a back-to-back tour champion.

Currently fifth in the world rankings, Ko's first event as a professional will be the LPGA tour's season-ending CME Group Titleholders championship in Florida towards the end of next month, for which she qualified by winning last year's Canadian Open.
