The New Zealand yachtie Karl Purdie has finished a close second at the OK Dinghy World Championships in Kalmar, Sweden.

Purdie just missed out on defending his 2008 title, finishing one point behind Swede Thomas Hansson-Mild.

The silver medalist lead the 72-boat fleet for much of the regatta, but was pipped at the line on the final day of racing.

Fellow New Zealanders Greg Wilcox and Julian Bishop finished fith and 57th respectively.
