Formula One shuts down for summer break

5:13 am on 30 July 2009

Kimi Raikkonen will be rallying in Finland and championship leader Jenson Button competing in a triathlon this weekend while their Formula One teams shut up shop for two weeks as part of cost-saving measures.

Tired mechanics and team staff will be enjoying the extended break before the next race in Valencia on August 23.

But not everyone is delighted and Williams chief executive Adam Parr says it's a waste of time and they'll never do it again.

Parr says because it will increase costs because it'll mean more work later in the year, particularly on next year's car,.

He says the break was agreed in the right spirit and Williams wanted to show solidarity with the car industry, when a lot of car companies are having to cut capacity.

Raikkonen will make his world rally championship debut this weekend while Button will be competing in the London Triathlon to raise money for the 'Make a Wish' foundation.
