Netball New Zealand has appointed Casey Williams as the new captain of the Silver Ferns.
Coach Ruth Aitken says the 24-year-old Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic defender a remarkable athlete and a formidable competitor who leads by example.
But Williams says she wasn't sure what to expect when Aitken called and thought she might have been in trouble.
She says the captaincy's a big surprise and she' still a bit stunned to be taking over frokm Julie Seymour who's retired.
