Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka has stepped out of compatriot Roger Federer's shadow and into the US Tennis Open semi-finals with a straight sets upset win over the defending champion Andy Murray.
Wawrinka won the match 6-4 6-3 6-2 and received a congratulatory text message upon reaching his first grand slam semi-final from five-time US Open champion Federer.
Wawrinka started 2013 strongly when he pushed world number one Novak Djokovic to 12-10 in the fifth set at the first major of the year the Australian Open.
He's since risen to number ten on the world ranking and another jump is guaranteed after lasting longer than Federer in the final major of the year.
Wawrinka says his ability to deal with the pressure was the key to his win.
He'll now player Serbia's world number one Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.
Djokovic had a four-set win over Russia's Mikhail Youzhny.
