Penrith have beaten the Warriors 28-24 in their crunch National Rugby League clash at Mt Smart Stadium, the Panthers scoring five tries to the Auckland side's four.

The Warriors surged to a 12-nil lead but the Panthers struck back with 3 unanswered tries to lead 16-12 at half-time.

The defeat is the Warriors' third straight and puts a major dent in the Auckland club's finals chances.

Penrith had to win to keep their season alive and Ivan Cleary's team now join the Warriors on the edge of the top eight playoffs places, two points outside with three games remaining.
