After being dumped by South African side the Sharks, New Zealand rugby coach John Plumtree has been appointed as the new Ireland forwards coach.

Plumtree, who had been Sharks head coach since 2008 and has won the Currie Cup twice, starts work in September.

The 48-year-old previously coached Welsh club Swansea and the Wellington Lions in New Zealand.

Plumtree says having watched a number of recent test matches, there are some really positive challenges in front of them.
