New Zealand Cricket has confirmed former Black Caps such as fast bowlers Shane Bond and Darry Tuffey are eligible for national teams, if they prove they've cut all ties with the rebel Indian Cricket League.
If they can there will be no stand-down period and they'll be considered for the Black Caps tour to Sri Lanka in August-September, and the New Zealand A tour to India in August.
Chief executive Justin Vaughan says New Zealand Cricket doesn't condone unofficial competitions and future ICC regulations could mean tougher sanctions.
However Vaughan say after losing a significant number of top players New Zealand Cricket looks forward to being able to select its best players again.
He says the decision is about policy rather than individual circumstances but he acknowleges Bond and Tuffey are the most likely candidates for future selection.
Vaughan says as there have been no ICL games since last year, the earliest former players would be eligible is August, so the board felt there was little justification for a further stand-down.
