The New Zealand Breakers Basketball chief executive Richard Clarke says the continuation of the Australian NBL depends on the involvement on a Melbourne team in the competition.
Right now a competition this season seems unlikely following the Melbourne Tigers decision to join their cross town rivals and defending champions South Dragons to take a year off, leaving the competition without a team in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane.
The Breakers are among seven teams who've entered the new competition, but Richard Clarke says it's a matter of Basketball Australia being able to convince one of the existing Melbourne clubs - or a new outfit to come on board.
But time's running out with a decision on the revamped league expected later today.
