Swede Henrik Stenson compiled a brilliant final round to clinch a commanding four-stroke victory at the worlds richest tournament, the $NZ15 million Players golf championship in Florida - the event regarded as the fifth major.
Stenson started the day five strokes behind overnight leader Alex Cejka, before carding a bogey-free six-under-par 66 on the demanding Sawgrass TPC course.
He recorded six birdies in the final 12 holes to match the biggest comeback in tournament history, finishing at 12-under 276, while Englishman Ian Poulter (70) claimed second on eight-under.
Stenson, 33, who came into the event ranked ninth in the world, collects $NZ2.8 million for his seventh professional victory, his second in the US.
He is the third European to win the US PGA Tours flagship event, joining Spaniard Sergio Garcia (last year) and Scotland's Sandy Lyle (1987).
New Zealand's Craig Perks won the title in 2002.
German Cejka, whose five-shot overnight lead was the largest in tournament history, took only four holes to surrender his lead as he suffered a serious case of the hooks, firing his shots left with monotonous regularly.
He carded 79 to tie for ninth on four-under, while Tiger Woods wasn't a factor either, struggling to a 73 to claim eighth place on five-under.
