Second NZ consortium looking to join ANBL

The Australian National Basketball League says it has had interest from a second New Zealand consortium that wants to join the competition.

The criteria for inclusion in the revamped ANBL are set to be released this week.

With the Sydney Kings, Brisbane and Singapore franchises falling by the wayside in recent months and the Sydney Spirit and Cairns organisations requiring financial support, the document is expected to include detailed and strong financial criteria.

League general manager Chuck Harmison says they have already had a phone call from a consortium in Wellington.

The current ANBL comprises 10 clubs, but Harmison says the number in the new competition will be determined by the strength of the submissions.
