The Sydney Spirit sunk a free throw in the dying seconds to score an 86-85 victory over the New Zealand Breakers in their Australian National Basketball League clash in Sydney.
The Spirit led at half time, before the Breakers surged to a 4 four lead at three-quarter time... however a pair of missed free-throws from Breakers veteran Tony Ronaldson with under three minutes remaining proved decisive as the Spirit built a three-point lead with 15 seconds on the clock.
Kirk Penney stepped up in the clutch dropping a three pointer with five seconds remaining to silence the local crowd before Ronaldson put Graeme Dann on the foul line with one second on the clock... he made no mistake to seal a vital win and hand the Breakers their second loss in as many nights.
Breakers coach Andrej Lemanis says his side's second loss in as many nights is a sign of the strength of the competition and how tough it is to win on the road.
Kirk Penney hit a game-high 23 points.
The second placed Breakers are at table topping South Dragons next weekend... last night the Dragons lost 99-90 to Perth.
