The world number five ranked mountain biker, New Zealand's Brook McDonald, has claimed his first national title at the downhill championships in Rotorua.
McDonald recovered from a near-crash on the in the Whakarewarewa Forest to set the winning time of 2:47.22.
Christchurch lawyer Amy Laird won the women's title as the first New Zealander across the line even though she was third amoung the elite competitors in 3:31.70.
