Rafael Nadal has won his first competitive singles tennis match in over six months at a clay court tournament in Chile.

Nadal is a wildcard at the lower-tier Vina Del Mar tournament but still the top seed and while the 11-time grand slam champion showed some rust by dropping the first two games, he easily dispatched little-known Argentine Federico Delbonis 6-3 6-2.

At world number 128, Delbonis is ranked 123 places below Nadal, who's dropped to No.5 during his injury layoff.

Nadal's choosing the ATP World Tour 250 tournament to make his comeback from long-term left knee problems that have sidelined him since his second round exit at Wimbledon in June.

The Chilean tournament's the same ATP level as Auckland's Heineken Open.
